We will send a driver to the airport to pick you up and take you to the hotel in Moshi. Orientation will take place at the hotel. Our guides will highlight all the important details regarding your trek and an inspection of your trekking gear will take place. DAY 1 •Machame Gate to Machame Camp •Elevation (ft): 5,400ft to 9,400ft •Distance: 11 km •Hiking Time: 5-7 hours •Habitat: Rain Forest The drive from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp.
DAY 2 •Machame Camp to Shira Camp •Elevation (ft): 9,400ft to 12,500ft •Distance: 5 km •Hiking Time: 4-6 hours •Habitat: Moorland After breakfast, we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge. Time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite.
DAY 3 •Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp •Elevation (ft): 12,500ft to 13,000ft •Distance: 10 km •Hiking Time: 6-8 hours •Habitat: Semi Desert From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day. DAY 4 •Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp •Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 13,100ft •Distance: 5 km •Hiking Time: 4-5 hours •Habitat: Alpine Desert After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. This is a short day meant for acclimatization
DAY 5 •Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp •Elevation (ft): 13,100ft to 15,300ft •Distance: 4 km •Hiking Time: 4-5 hours •Habitat: Alpine Desert After breakfast, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.
DAY 6 •Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut •Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft) •Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent •Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent •Habitat: Arctic Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a north westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (18,600 ft.), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
DAY 7 •Mweka Camp to Moshi •Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft •Distance: 10 km •Hiking Time: 3-4 hours •Habitat: Rain Forest After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). transferred to Lake Duluti Serena/Moivaro Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National park Leave the lodge at 7.15am in the morning and drive via Arusha to Tarangire National Park for game drive. The
park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. After the game drive you will drive to Sangaiwe Lodge / Simba Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Tarangire National park – Lake Manyara National Park After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara for a village tour at Mto WA Mbu town, then continue to Manyara
wildlife camp for lunch. Mto WA Mbu is a small but very busy town where people that belong to all the 120 different tribes of Tanzania live together. This easy but very exciting walk will give you an opportunity to interact with the local people and learn a lot about their daily life. In the afternoon depart for a game drive in Lake Manyara national park. This park is one of the most diverse reserves in the country. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. At the backdrop is the wall of the Great Rift Valley, before which lies the groundwater forest, areas of open grassland near the lake foreshore, and the Soda Lake. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this area, which consists of open grassy areas, hot springs, dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Lake Manyara National Park is a birding paradise that has more than 350 species of bird. The park is also famed for its unique and elusive tree-climbing lions. After great exploration in the lake Manyara National Park you will drive to Manyara Luxury Escarpment Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Escarpment Luxury Lodge – Ngorongoro Crater - Ndutu After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up and drive to Ngorongoro crater. After check in you
descend down 600 meters into the crater for a full day game drive. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. You will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here. After lunch you leave the crater and head towards the Serengeti National Park, leaving the highlands behind, you descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. After an early lunch you ascend the crater and head to Ndutu, with a short stop on a traditional Maasai village (if interested) then continue with game drive enrooted to Ndutu. Ndutu is the area between South east Serengeti and North West Ngorongoro where the great migration will be from December to late April for the calving season. This short grassland area has highly nutritious grass due to the minerals found in the area and it is where the wildebeests calving occur in February. It is one of the very few places in the parks where off-road game driving is permitted and the best place to see hunting cats (lions and cheetahs). Other animals in the place include hyenas, warthogs, elephants, giraffes and many more. You will drive to Serengeti Mbugani Camps/Karibu Camps Ndutu for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Full Day Game drive in Ndutu Morning and afternoon game drives in the Ndutu area exploring the great migration while looking for hunting
lions and cheetahs. This area has got a lot of big cats during this season and many with cubs because it is time for plenty of food. The area is also famous for photography during the calving season. You will therefore enjoy this opportunity and for the entire day. You can break the day into two or three sessions to go back to the accommodations and then proceed with game drives or have one full day. All meals and overnight will be at Serengeti Mbugani Camps/Karibu Camps Ndutu Hot Air balloons can be arranged for those who would like to inquire.
Day 6: Ndutu – Serengeti National Park You will have an early game drive in Ndutu and then after drive back to the lodge for breakfast and check out
from the camp. You will drive to the central Serengeti area, known as the Seronera, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. You will have a full day game drive in the area. Evening drive to Karibu Camps/Tanzania Bush Camps/Mbugani Camps for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park Full Day
Spend a full day exploring the vast Serengeti plains. You will rise early to enjoy an early morning game drive. At sunrise, you may encounter animals grazing in the beautiful light of sunrise and predators may still be busy hunting before retiring to rest for the day. Sunrise on the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You have the option to return to your accommodation for a hot lunch or to opt for a packed lunch which can be enjoyed at one of the various picnic sites found in the Serengeti. After lunch, you will continue on a game drive. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lions. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are not too high. They rely on daylight and speed to catch their prey. Hippo pods can be seen in the bigger pools and rivers while crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves on the riverbanks. You will return to camp in time to enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal. Dinner and overnight at Karibu Camps/Tanzania Bush Camps/Mbugani Camps.
Day 8: Serengeti National Park Full Day You will rise early to enjoy an early morning game drive. At sunrise, you may encounter animals grazing in the

Day 03: Aksum-Adwa-Adigrat Leave Aksum for Adigrat with short treks to Adwa Mountains and the pre-historic site of Yeha. Leaving Aksum head to Adwa, referred by the locals as the guardian of Zion. If you get interested you can hike the last 3-4km towards the breathtaking Adwa Mountains superlatively called the Conference of Mountains! Then, continue onto the temple of Yeha- the earliest standing structure in sub-Saharan Africa. Here again, you can walk the last 2km or so. Afternoon, leave Yeha for Hawzein to use it as a base to explore the remote churches of Tigray. Overnight: Hawzein in a hotel
Day 04: Full day trek to Mariam Korkor and Abune Yemata Today, you will start your true adventure of trekking to the remote churches of Tigary starting with Mariam Korkor. The church shelters important ecclesiastical treasures including parchments and crosses. The nearby hermits’ cell- Daniel Korkor enjoys one of the most stunning views in the area. You will have a picnic lunch before heading onto your next adventure. Then, continue trekking to Abuna Yemata Guh, a church perched high in the Gheraltha Mountains. This one of the most challenging but rewarding hike using handholds and footprints of pilgrims worn by erosion. The church enjoys terrific views and the inside part is adorned with vivid paintings. Overnight: Hawzein in a hotel
Day 05: Trek to Debre Tsion After breakfast drive to Megab from where you start trekking to Debre Tsion also referred as Abuna Abereham. You will across farm lands and small village to access Abuna Abereham, known for its diverse architectural features. Founded by Abuna Abreham, a monk who was a major figure in the ascetic monastic movement behind establishment of remote places of worship in the mountains of Tigray, Debre Tsion is rectangular in shape, with its vaulted and domed ceiling supported by six cruciform pillars with plain capitals. The murals athat adorned the church were painted in the 14th century and the majority still remained intact. Overnight: Hawzein in a hotel
Day 06: Visit Abreha We Atsibeha Church Believed to be built in the first half of the 4th c AD by the twin brother Abraha and Atsbeha , the church is one of the finest and earliest centers of worship. The massive cruciform interior of the church is supported by finely carved pillars. The walls are beautifully adorned with biblical as well as historical scenes. The ceiling of the church bears precisely curved crosses and friezes. The church also houses the mummies of the twin brothers Ezana and Sayizana later named Aberaha and Atsbeha as well as the cross of the First Patriarch of Ethiopia. Overnight: Wukro in a hotel
Day 07: Full day trek to Petros We Pulos, Mikael Milahzengi and Medihanialem AdiKesho Churches Today you will explore another group of sacred churches in Tigray: Petros We Paulos, Mikael Milahzengi and Medihanealem AdiKesho. After a short drive from Wukro, you'll begin your hike through farmland with your first stop at Petros we Paulos (about 40 minutes), a part-built, part-natural cave. Accessing the church is demanding and even scary for people with vertigo. The locals can easily climb using foot and finger handles. The interior is simple but has brightly colored wall paintings. Then continue walking to Mikael Milhazengi Church for about 20 minutes. Since it is carved on top of a prominent hill, the church can be seen from afar. Mikael Milahzengi has simple architecture compared to other churches. The most attractive feature of the church is the elaborately decorated dome with the local Himbasha bread symbol of Tigray. Priests believe that it represents the seal of God. Leave Mikael Milhazengi and continue east to Medihane Alem Adikesho, by far the most beautiful church in terms of architecture and location in the cluster. The wooden-framed doors and windows are beautifully decorated, as are the free-standing pillars, intricately carved with friezes and various symbols. The climb up to the church may seem like a challenge in the first part, but then it's a gentler trek through beautiful patches of forest. Overnight: Wukro in a hotel
Day 08: Wukro –Mekele- Afar Today you come to the end of your Tigrai adventure and jump onto your next experience- the Danakil Depression. Leave Wukro and head to Mekel to meet with your crew and proceed to the Danakill Depression.
